According to a CareerBuilder study from last year, the top candidate mistakes are: dressing inappropriately for an interview, badmouthing a former boss, appearing disinterested and/or arrogant, providing insufficient answers, and not asking good questions. The trick to interviewing is to be prepared. Review the job posting before you interview and think about what it says is most important. Prepare four or five examples/stories about your work that you can tell that demonstrate your ability to do the job. Then think about potential questions that might be uncomfortable to answer. Prepare your answers ahead of time so you can walk into the interview feeling confident. Stay calm and remember that an interview is really a good conversation about your work. If you are prepared, you'll be better equipped to answer the questions, and that confidence will go a long way. Stay persistent and remember that every interview is an opportunity to improve. Keep it up until you find the right job! Good luck!
